Entry # 1 - A Little Bit About Me
My Story - The Beginning
Monday, 11 August 2008 17:00

I’m a thyroid cancer survivor. Hello, I’m a 32 year old male living in United States.  I was diagnosed with papillary thyroid cancer in Jan 2009.  This blog is my story. Having thyroid cancer has been very scary.  I have gone through many ups and downs with my treatments and doctor experiences.  I have had some very positive experiences, but unfortunately the start was very rough.  Overall, I am doing excellent and I’m living a normal happy life.  I hope you can learn from my experiences.

There are around 35,000 new cases of thyroid cancers diagnosed yearly.  I found it very beneficially and comforting to know what others have done and gone through for treatment.  I’m the type of person who doesn’t like surprises.  Please read my story and share it with anyone you feel would benefit from reading about my cancer challenges.  This blog will continue to be updated with my progress of treatment, tests and outcomes.  I may also add up-to-date news and studies that I’ve read as well as anything else I feel would be helpful.

You, your friend, or family member does not have to go through thyroid cancer alone.

Entry # 30 TSH Levels are in the Zone
Friday, 31 July 2009 17:00

Off to my general doctor.  It's been awhile, about 3 months, since my last visit with any doctors.  My thyroid function labs were taken and my TSH is now 0.1 uIU/ml.  So now I'm running a little bit hyper.  My endocrinologist's goal for my TSH levels is between 0.1 to 0.4 uIU/ml in order to provide good thyroid cell suppression.  So I'm right on.   I do feel some of the hyper symptoms like being shaky, mild anxiety, hot feeling, and sometimes it's difficult to sleep at night but it's only occasionally.  I will be seeing my endocrinologist in two months for an ultrasound and lab tests to monitor thyroglobulin levels.  I will talk with him about these symptoms and see if moving from 137 mcg to 125 mcg would be a good idea.

I get a lot emails regarding the different types of thyroid hormone medications available.  So I wrote an article that outlines the various medications.  This overview of thyroid medications is useful to get a general idea of the different types of thyroid hormone supplements.  I hope it helps.

The summer is coming to an end and fall hurricane season is starting.  I decided to do a little last bit of traveling.  I hit up a zoo while I had some extra time and I just loved the aquarium exhibit.   The sea turtles were amazing!  Thought I would take a picture to share with everyone.

Entry #23 Result of the Whole Body Scan: A New Beginning
Tuesday, 31 March 2009 17:00

So a week later I’m off to MCG again to find out my results from my whole body scan.  I was a little nervous.  A whole body scan will show if any of the cancer has metastasized to other locations in the body.  Typically, neck lymph nodes are a very common location for metastasis, followed by the lungs....

After a long week of waiting another day of bad news.  The fine needle aspiration came back as “suspicious for papillary carcinoma.”  I was really bummed out.  How could I have cancer?...
