As I laid on our couch going in and out of sleep my cell phone rang.  It was a number from Georgia…I knew it was my surgeon with the results from my biopsy.  My heart race as I reach for the phone.  My surgeon went straight to the point “the pathology report shows stage one papillary carcinoma.”  My heart just fell out of my chest.  Yet again, I was speechless. I was now living my nightmare.  I asked myself, how could I possibly have thyroid cancer?  But I did have thyroid cancer....

For the next 7 days I had to avoid people….my wife…my dog…pretty much everything.  I was fortunate enough to have a guest room to sleep in and a separate bathroom to use.  This actually made it rather easy to avoid everyone.  I also took two showers a day to wash off any of the secreted radioactive iodine.  After about day 5 this really got annoying.  My poor dog would come running up to me only to be avoided.   She looked so sad....

So now I am scheduled to see the thyroid nodule specialist at Medical College of Georgia.  It is a bit of a drive to get to Georgia but at this point it is worth it.....

Entry # 28 A Switch in Health Insurance

It’s the beginning of July and no doctor appointment yet.  I have had a change of health insurance and I am still figuring out the new system.  Now that I have a “pre-existing condition” I am curious how this may affect my health coverage.  I didn’t have any laps of insurance so hopefully I am fully covered.  Because I have had thyroid cancer I’m sure this will always come up with insurances....

I’m back from my cruise and the day of my surgery is quickly approaching.  I’m feeling anxious.  At this point I really want to get the surgery over with so I can move on with my life....
