I arrived to the hospital admissions around 7:30 am. I was admitted into the hospital and shown to my “special” room for my radiation treatment. The radiologist and resident came in and discussed my treatment and possible side effects. Shortly after this talk two hospital radiation officers came in and “wrapped the room.” They basically covered everything with paper and/or plastic. Apparently this makes it easier to clean the room once the treatment is over. I had to change into hospital clothes and just wait for the radioactive pill.

Well, three weeks after starting my new dose of thyroid meds (137 micrograms) I am feeling significantly better. My afternoon nap isn’t required to make it through the day now. I’m actually able to make it through the entire day with energy to spare. I’m schedule to meet with my endocrinologist at the end of the month for blood work. I’m very curious to see where my TSH levels are now with this new dose of thyriod medication….

My wife and I decided to go on a Caribbean cruise for Christmas. We just wanted to get away from all of life’s challenges. It would be nice to enjoy sometime together before I go under the knife. Boy was it a blast!!

The endocrinologist and my internal medicine doctor ordered blood work that monitored the function of my thyroid. All the blood work was normal and my thyroid function was normal....

The two days prior to the radioactive iodine treatment I was injected with Recombinant TSH, Thyrogen. These injections increased my body’s TSH levels. Because of this I did not have to discontinue my thyroxin hormone pills. I preferred this method because I didn’t have to go through a state of hypothyroidism prior to my radiation treatment....
