In order to prepare for radioactive iodine 131 radiation treatment one has to have a low iodine diet for about two weeks prior to the treatment. Apparently, this helps the radioactive iodine get absorbed into the thyroid cells. This of course will make the treatment successful…. Today was my first day of my iodine free diet. As I read the literature given to me by my endocrinologist I realized just how tough the next two weeks is going to be…no milk products!! I love milk so this poses many challenges. Also, no restaurants! Reading the diet makes me feel like I really can’t eat anything. I’m limited to small portions of meat and no rice. Spaghetti is O.K. so here we come pasta for two weeks.
Well, tonight I decided to grill a small chicken breast, slap it on some hamburger buns and a couple toppings then it turned into a grilled chicken burger. With some chips and a glass of wine I’m set! Not so bad. Here are three days of my diet. I will not bore you with anymore of my boring diet.
DAY ONE Breakfast/Lunch Egg whites scrambled, not so good Two pieces of toast Glass of cranberry juice Ritz/peanut butter sandwiches Dinner Chicken breast burger with fixings Doritos Glass of wine
